La Liga preview and tips: Go for high-scoring draw between Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla

Jose Luis Mendilibar

Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla clash in La Liga on Thursday evening in a battle between two in-form teams.

Athletic Bilbao are one of the most in-form teams in La Liga and are looking to secure a place in the Europa League next season.
Meanwhile, the only way 12th-placed Sevilla can secure European football is if they win this season's Europa League.
Seventh-placed Bilbao haven't suffered defeat since March 12 when they lost at home to league leaders Barcelona. Since then, they have picked up four wins and one draw in La Liga, scoring nine goals and conceding just three.
Bilbao are one of five teams in the Spanish top flight that have managed to score more than 40 goals this season; 42. Meanwhile, they have conceded just 30 goals.

Sevilla are currently enjoying a four-game unbeaten streak in the Spanish top flight for the first time this season. They have also picked up consecutive league wins for the first time since mid-January when they beat Cadiz and Elche.

They have suffered only one defeat in their last six matches in all competitions and have scored at least twice in each of those. Despite this, they still have a negative goal difference, having scored 37 and conceded 45 this campaign.

Suggested bet: Both teams to score

Bilbao have won 13 games this season, seven of which at home. They have picked up 28 of 46 points at the San Mames. However, in their last four home games, they have managed only one win - the Basque derby against Real Sociedad.

They have scored fewer goals at home (20) than away (22) and have only managed two goals in their last three home games.
Their defence has been admirable at home though, conceding fewer than a goal per game - 11 goals in 14 games.

Last season, Bilbao lost at home to Sevilla 0-1 while the reverse fixture this season ended in a 1-1 draw. Jose Luis Mendilibar's team have only four away wins this season, but this includes their last two on the road.

They have scored just 17 goals away (including four in their last two matches) while they have conceded 26.
With a victory in this game, Sevilla could win three consecutive away games in La Liga for the first time since April 2021. It will be a tough challenge against an in-form Bilbao side though so a high-scoring draw could be on the cards.
