Hull City vs Ipswich tips and predictions: Tigers Bite to wound Town’s promotion push
Hull City welcomes Ipswich Town to the KCOM Stadium on Saturday night (2000 BST) with both sides chasing promotion from the Championship.
Hull City showed bags of character to take the lead three times against Coventry City on Wednesday night, claiming three points to potentially end their rivals play-off push.
Liam Rosenior’s side must maintain that momentum to claim six more against Ipswich Town and Plymouth Argyle next weekend while hoping Norwich slip up twice.
It’s a long shot, but the Tigers are fighting. City are unbeaten in five and have claimed at least a point in 12 of their last 14 matches.
Kieran McKenna’s visitors will be focused on an automatic promotion push which remains in their hands. If Town can claim maximum points, they’ll become a Premier League club.
Leeds United will have the opportunity to pile the pressure on should they beat QPR on Friday, but that doesn’t change the scenario of three wins required.
The Tractor Boys have enjoyed a 10-day gap to prepare for the challenge ahead and while that sounds beneficial, we saw our promotion-chasing trio suffer from ring rust after the last international break.
But the biggest issue may be their form on the road. After making the most of a kind schedule early on, McKenna’s side has looked vulnerable against top-half teams.
They’ve claimed a total of 10 points from nine meetings with top-half sides ahead of their key showdowns with eight-place Hull and ninth-place Coventry. They’ve also slipped up in nine of their previous 15 away trips.
On the other hand, Hull lost just four home games in 2023, two of which were against promotion-chasers Burnley and Southampton, and have lost a total of six so far this campaign.
City’s style has caused problems for the top three this season, most notably Leicester from whom they pillaged four points. They also came mighty close to holding Leeds twice.
