Brighton vs Ajax tips and predictions: Brighton to edge Ajax in Europa League thriller

Evan Ferguson celebrates

Planet Sport Bet ambassador Robbie Savage is backing Brighton to make history by beating Ajax in the Europa League.

Quite incredible to see Ajax languishing near the bottom of Eredivisie. I think it’s their lowest-ever position. Losing to Utrecht at the weekend 4-3. Quite remarkable really.

Brighton need a win. At home, they need to beat Ajax.

I’m going with Brighton, in a must-win game for me. I’m going 2-1 to Brighton.

Robbie’s Tip: Brighton 2-1 Ajax

Brighton vs Ajax team news

Julio Enciso, Jakub Moder, Solly March and Pervis Estupinan will miss out due to injury, while Tariq Lamptey and Danny Welbeck are doubts.

Ajax will have to cope without the services of long-term absentee Sivert Mannsverk while Geronimo Rulli, Ahmetcan Kaplan and Devyne Rensch are doubtful.

Roberto De Zerbi will need to be creative with his team selection due to the fact all of Brighton’s senior left-backs are unavailable.

Evan Ferguson is likely to continue in attack, supported by Simon Adingra, Kaoru Mitoma and Ansu Fati.

Key stats

  • Brighton have scored two goals in their first two Europa League games, yet still failed to get a maiden European win.
  • Ajax lost their last seven games against Premier League opposition.
  • Ajax are 17th in the league - their lowest-ever ranking in history
  • Ajax are winless in eight games across all competitions

Planet Sport’s other bets to consider

Brighton are winless in five and have yet to get off the mark in the Europa League. Meanwhile, Ajax are having a disastrous season.

The Dutch giants have been shipping goals at an alarming rate, conceding three or more against Twente, Marseille, Feyenoord and Utrecht.

Brighton’s style lends itself to both scoring and conceding and bunches so it is worth noting that Ajax have also found the net nine times in six matches.

Games at the AMEX Stadium are averaging 3.66 goals so far this season with both teams scoring in each.

All things considered, it does seem nailed on that both teams find the net at least once, and backing over 2.5 goals could even prove to be conservative.

The visitors may be out of form, but it’s slightly baffling to see a Brighton win and both teams to score priced comfortably above even money, so that has to be a consideration.
