Slovan Bratislava: Double chance
Ajax vs Bodo/Glimt
Ajax have been enduring a tough transitional period this season. The famous Dutch club are already out of the title race and were eliminated from the Europa League.
The Europa Conference League is their shot at redemption and since the draw was made, they find themselves in good form.
The hosts have won nine, drawn three and lost just one of their previous 13 at home and they have the good fortune of hosting a side who haven’t played a competitive game since December 14.
Bodo/Glimt have shown their potential on the European stage in recent seasons but there’s no substitute for match practice so Ajax should be by far the sharper side.
Union St Gilloise vs Eintracht Frankfurt
Union St Gilloise crashed out of a tough Europa League group and immediately drew the short straw in the Conference League when being paired with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Despite being an overwhelming underdog in the group stage, the Belgians still managed to claim the most famous scalp in their history, beating Liverpool 2-1 on the final matchday.
The German side were fortunate to make it through after a weak finish to their group campaign but they did win two of three at home.
The lowlight of their campaign was a 2-0 loss away to Aberdeen while their only win was a 1-0 victory against Finnish side HJK. The hosts will know the importance of taking a lead to Germany.
Real Betis vs Dinamo Zagreb
Betis has been a tough place to visit this season. The hosts have lost just two matches at home, to Barcelona and Rangers, and should prove too strong here.
Excluding their heavy defeat to Barca, Manuel Pellegrini’s side have conceded five goals in 11 matches and were able to hold Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid to a draw.
The visitors have won just two of seven on their travels and lost to Viktoria Plzen and minnows Ballkani in their group stage campaign.
Sturm Graz vs Slovan Bratislava
Despite their domestic success and strong home record, the Austrian side have failed to consistently compete in Europe for several years.
The hosts have won just three of their previous 22 European matches and just two on their travels during that run, both against footballing minnows.
Slovan Bratislava are a wrecking ball. They’re 10 points clear in the Super Liga and their only loss in their previous 15 away trips was a 2-1 defeat to Lille.
