Copa America 2024: Argentina vs Peru tips and predictions - Patience required as World Champions win again

Argentina will wrap up Group A on Saturday night (0100 BST, Sun) when they face a Peru side yet to score at Copa America.

Argentina left it late to secure all three points against Chile, with Lionel Messi assisting Lautaro Martinez’s winner in the 88th minute.

Peru will look to provide similarly stubborn opposition, and on the evidence of their games against Chile and Canada, they’ll spend most of this match sat deep.

Lionel Scaloni could make changes for the world champion’s final group stage match as they’ve already qualified for the quarter-finals.

That doesn’t offer much hope for the Peruvians as Angel Di Maria, Alejandro Garnacho, Leandro Paredes and Martinez are among the subs.

At least half the team will remain unchanged and it’s likely Messi will play some role to help ensure they top the group

Peru’s resilience has been admirable but they’re sorely lacking players that can carry the ball up the pitch and produce a cutting pass.

The Argentinians have averaged 63% possession in their first two matches so they should be able to pen Jorge Fossati’s side in and keep the pressure on.

The only way they can escape Group A is with a shock win but without much of an outlet, they’ll likely sit deep for most of the match and try to strike late, allowing Argentina to pick them off.
