Cardiff City vs Huddersfield Town verdict, predicted score, key stats and suggested bets

Neil Warnock

Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town have the opportunity to secure Championship survival if results go their way this weekend.

Huddersfield are one point and one place above the dropzone, with Cardiff five points better off going into the weekend's fixtures.

Date, KO time and TV coverage

Championship, Sunday April 30, Kick-off 12pm, live on Sky Sports Main Event

Predicted score

Cardiff City 0-2 Huddersfield Town

Suggested bets

Huddersfield Town to win
Under 2.5 goals
Both teams to score: No

Key stats

Cardiff City have failed to win 12 of their last 14 Championship matches at home.
Barring an incredible set of results, Cardiff's win at Rotherham should mean that Championship survival is guaranteed.
Huddersfield are unbeaten in six of their last seven Championship matches.
After going winless in 16 meetings with Cardiff, Huddersfield have won back-to-back fixtures against the Welsh side.

Team news

Callum Robinson (hamstring) and Jamilu Collins (ACL) aren't likely to feature for the home side on Sunday as they continue their comeback from injury.
For the visitors, Anthony Knockaert (knock), Duane Holmes (tendon), Oliver Turton (knee), Kieran Phillips (leg), Lee Nicholls (shoulder), Faustino Anjorin (ankle) and Yuta Nakayama (achilles) are all battling injuries.

Verdict

Cedric Kipre's 87th-minute winner against Rotherham United may have guaranteed Cardiff City's survival. The Welsh club are six points clear of the drop zone and could be safe by kick-off on Sunday.
The 2-1 victory means the South Wales club have won back-to-back away games for the first time this season. Those wins came either side of a handy 1-1 draw at home to Stoke. Their tally of seven points in three games has plunged Huddersfield back into trouble.
Neil Warnock will come up against his former club with his Town side on a three-match winless run. Ryan Hedges' 90th-minute equaliser for Blackburn in the first of those matches has proven particularly costly.
Huddersfield are currently one point clear of the relegation zone, but Reading, Blackpool and Wigan will all have played by the time Town kick off on Sunday. The saving grace for the visitors could be their game in hand.
While Cardiff aren't mathematically safe, it would take an extraordinary set of results to relegate them. Huddersfield must win this game plus their game in hand, while Reading, QPR and Rotherham must win their remaining two games, with Cardiff losing at Burnley on the final day.
In reality, Cardiff should know they are safe by Saturday evening. That will lift any pressure, but it may also cause Sabri Lamouchi's men to drop their recent high standards.
There's no substitute for motivation at this stage of the season and while Huddersfield are winless in three, they are still unbeaten in six of seven Championship matches.
Warnock's men can't rely on taking any points from Sheffield United on Tuesday and they will want to avoid a final day showdown with Reading. City have only won twice in their last 14 home matches, so it wouldn't be a surprise if Town claim a valuable three points.
