Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid tips and predictions: Hosts to end rivals unbeaten run

The clash between Atletico and Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey round of 16 will take place on Thursday night at Wanda Metropolitano (2030 GMT).
January will provide a bonanza for the fans of Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, with two local derbies in just eight days.
On January 10th, Real came out on top against Atleti in the Spanish Super Cup semi-finals, winning 5-3 after extra time. The score was 3-3 after the first 90 minutes after Atleti had led 1-0 and 3-2.
The dramatic victory was Los Blancos’ retribution for the loss they endured in the fall away against their rivals, 3-1 in the league.
A developing trend in the fixture worth noting is that Real have not won in 90 minutes in their last four games against Atletico.
There are plenty of reasons to expect another open game based on recent head-to-head meetings.
In the previous five games between Atletico and Real, a total of 21 goals were scored, and both teams scored in each game.
Atletico's loss to Real was their second consecutive defeat. In their last La Liga match, Los Rojiblancos lost 4-3 away to Girona.
Diego Simeone's team is currently in fifth place in the league with 38 games played and one game in hand.
It’s been an unusual season for Atletico, with goals and entertainment in good supply. There have been 26 goals scored in their last five matches.
Atletico Madrid are a formidable force at home, having not lost for over a year. In their last home game, they secured a 1-0 victory over Sevilla.
The only game in which Atlético Madrid failed to win at Wanda Metropolitano in the 23/24 season was a 3-3 draw against Getafe on December 19th, 2023.
Los Blancos are themselves a guaranteed spectacle, with no less than 24 goals scored in their last six matches.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side haven’t lost since the 3-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid in September.
