Senegal cruise into AFCON last 16

Abdoulaye Seck (61') and Iliman Ndiaye (90') were both on target in the second half at Stade Charles Konan Banny de Yamoussoukro to end their group stage campaign with nine points.

Cameroon's late 3-2 win over Gambia saw them move onto four points in second place, while Guinea in third place, also with four points, still qualify as one of four best third-placed teams.

Neither side started this tie particularly well and it took until the 10th minute for the first real chance as Nampalys Mendy fired in a first-time shot from the edge of the box that Mohamed Camara did well to divert behind with his head.

Chances were few and far between in the trying conditions, with Senegal doing their utmost to step up the tempo after half-an-hour, although the only result was another off-target, long-range Mendy strike.

A Mendy free-kick on 52 minutes from the right fleck found Seck, who rose to beat Ibrahim Kone to the ball, only to fire his header over the target.

Sadio Mane should have scored with 57 minutes on the clock but he failed to slot home from a tight angle after rounding Kone.

But a goal was always coming and Senegal took the lead just after the hour mark when Seck powerfully headed home from Krepin Diatta's free-kick.

Guinea pushed for an equaliser and Aguibou Camara tried his luck from distance, however, his ambitious attempt was never troubling Edouard Mendy.

Mane was denied by an offside flag on 85 minutes but Ndiaye wrapped up proceedings with his slick finish to end a devastating counter attack by Senegal, started by Mane.
