Youssef En-Nesyri's move to Fenerbahce signals new chapter for Sevilla
Sevilla forward Youssef En-Nesyri looks set to join Turkish giants Fenerbahce SK in a transfer deal, with the move expected to be finalised soon.
According to a report by MARCA, the agreement, reached this past weekend, marks a significant move for both the player and the club, as En-Nesyri opts for a new challenge and a substantial salary increase in Turkey, along with the chance to compete in the prestigious Champions League.
En-Nesyri, who has been with Sevilla for four and a half seasons, will travel to Istanbul to undergo the required medical examination before signing a new contract with Fenerbahce, likely spanning four years. Sevilla could reportedly receive over €20 million from the transfer, including some performance-based variables. This financial boost will come at a crucial time for Sevilla, as they seek to balance their books and reconfigure their squad.
Jose Mourinho's persistent interest in the player and AS Roma's failure to present a concrete offer played a pivotal role in En-Nesyri's decision. Despite being tempted by the prospect of joining Roma, the Moroccan forward ultimately chose the stability and opportunities offered by Fenerbahce.
The departure of En-Nesyri is expected to alleviate some financial pressures on Sevilla. The club are currently overstocked in central defence and needs to streamline its squad. With En-Nesyri and Rafa Mir departing, Sevilla's forward line will require reinforcement.
In recent years, the club have seen several forwards, including Rafa Mir, Anthony Martial, Kasper Dolberg, Mariano Diaz, and Isaac Romero, come and go. Of these, only En-Nesyri and Romero made significant impacts, highlighting the difficulty and cost of securing reliable goal-scorers.
Sevilla's Sporting Director, Victor Orta, has been proactive in the transfer market this summer, learning from previous delays. Orta, during Saul Niguez's presentation, emphasised the importance of early signings: "Four key players have already arrived, which is crucial. We must always remain open to the market for potential opportunities, but our goal was to secure our most important players early.
"Today marks the 12th session, and we are very pleased. This will significantly help us be better prepared for the first league match."
The early arrivals include Chidera Ejuke, Peque, Albert Sambi Lokonga, and Saul Niguez, alongside the addition of coach Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta. These moves signal Sevilla's intent to hit the ground running as the new season approaches.
