Xavi Hernandez: Barcelona could not reach Bayern Munich's level in the Champions League

Xavi Hernandez head coach of Barcelona gives instructions during the La Liga Santander match

Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez admitted that Bayern Munich were the much better side on Wednesday night in their 3-0 Champions League loss at Camp Nou, which saw them eliminated from the tournament.

The Catalans hopes were ended earlier in the day when Inter Milan defeated Viktoria Plzen 4-0, which now means in 2023 Barcelona will drop into the Europa League for the second straight season.
In an interview with Marca after the match, Xavi said the Inter result had a lot to do with their performance against the Bundesliga champions in the later game.
"Today we have not reached their level, they have been better. In Munich it was us, but today they have been better, more intense. The elimination affected us psychologically," Xavi said.
"Tomorrow, we train and think about LaLiga. There were high expectations, we had a difficult group. Everything possible happened to us. It has been very cruel. We didn't compete well today."
Xavi added that Barcelona were simply not at Bayern Munich's level on the night.
"We know that everything has happened to us, all possible situations. I understand that from the outside there is talk of failure, but inside we do different analysis," Xavi said.
"The first thing is our mistakes, that we have not been at the level due to effectiveness or errors. The way we went out of the competition, waiting for a game to finish, is also cruel.
"We leave feeling. If we analyse the other games, I think we deserved more."
The Catalan Giants will next be in La Liga action when they face Valencia on Saturday at Mestalla Stadium.
