Wolves v Aston Villa predictions: Free bet builder, tips, odds and preview

Aston Villa Manager Unai Emery

Aston Villa return from their Champions League adventures with a short trip up the road to Wolverhampton where the two sides meet for the Saturday early evening kick-off (1730 GMT).

A spicy Midlands derby to get stuck should be a perfect end to Saturday's football action, but sadly we are not expecting this to be an end-to-end thriller.

Villa will have had just two full days rest after their 4-2 Champions League win over Celtic on Wednesday night and will no doubt be feeling the exertions of that thriller.

Wolves will be desperate for points now that their 'new manager bounce' has gone flat, a defeat to Villa would be their fifth on the trot.

Here we've put together five tips for the Molineux clash, and if you stitch all these tips together into a bet builder you should be able to pick up odds of around 16/1 at the time of writing.

Under 2.5 goals - 6/5

Under 9.5 corners - 6/5

Morgan Rogers - more than one foul

Match result - draw - 5/2

Aston Villa tend to struggle after they’ve played in the Champions League, they’ve only won once all season after a European adventure, although that was against Wolves back in September.

Wolves were a different kettle of fish back then, and are likely to be a tougher opponent this time around, especially as Villa have one less day to rest up with this match being played on a Saturday evening rather than the usual Sunday.

Villa have drawn three matches after Champions League games, including last week’s draw with West Ham and looking increasingly leggy in these encounters.

Wolves can capitalise on this and grab the draw they came within a whisker of achieving last weekend against Arsenal.

BTTS - yes

Wolves haven’t kept a clean sheet in six, and it’s not one of Villa’s strong suits either with just one in the last 12.

Villa’s defence is stretched to its limit at the moment and only had one recognisable centre back against Celtic and for most of the West Ham game after Tyrone Mings went off injured.

Mings could return against Wolves, as the knee injury he picked up against West Ham wasn’t as bad as first feared.

But having an element of walking wounded will certainly favour Wolves who have been struggling to find their goal scoring touch in recent weeks.

Wolves have only scored once in the last four Premier League games and though it makes BTTS a bit of risk, we believe Villa’s makeshift back line can be breached.

Both teams to score has also landed in five of the last seven meetings between the two teams.

Under 2.5 goals

Though Villa beat Wolves 3-1 earlier in the season, encounters between these two sides have produced under 2.5 goals in four of the last five.

With Wolves struggling to find the back of the net and Villa mostly likely knackered from midweek, this will be a tight game with few goals.

Under 9.5 corners - 6/5

Both sides are surprisingly feeble when it comes to winning corners. On average Aston Villa win six a game, and Wolves are at 3.2.

In their last three Premier League games Wolves won just nine corners, while Villa only amassed ten. Both sides only won one corner each in their recent encounters with Arsenal, which is pretty shabby.

In previous encounters over 10.5 has landed in four of the last five, but we are going with recent form and the better odds with under 9.5 corners.

Morgan Rogers - more than one foul

Bit of a throwaway one to end, but it’ll help boost the odds of the bet builder a touch.

Morgan Rogers is usually nailed on for at least one foul with the dynamic way he plays.

He’s picked up ten fouls in the last three Premier League games, and has already committed a grand total of 34 fouls this season. The most of any Aston Villa player this season.
