Real Madrid vs Atalanta betting preview

Real Madrid are expected to lift their sixth UEFA Super Cup in Warsaw on Wednesday, but plucky Italians Atalanta stand in their way on the back of a fantastic Serie A season.

Gasperini’s side nearly cracked the top three last term, finishing two points behind third-placed Juventus, whilst also capturing the Europa League.

Though it may be seen as a lesser competition, they had to overcome Premier League Liverpool, invincibles Bayer Leverkusen, and Marseille.

The feel-good factor from that occasion is likely to carry them through the early stages of this season, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side now unbeaten in 26 matches across all competitions.

All the big hitters will be available for this final, including Vinicius Junior, who loves a goal on a big occasion, and new signing Kylian Mbappe, who arrived from PSG this summer.

Los Blancos are likely to dictate possession for large parts of the contest and it’ll take a big rearguard effort to prevent them from creating chances at will. However, if Atalanta can do that, they’re a threat on the break.

Ademola Lookman capped a 17-goal season with a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Leverkusen, in a game which captured his explosive ability and counter-attacking threat.

However, he may not be the biggest threat to the Madrid goal. Italy forward Mateo Retegui has swapped Genoa for Bergamo and the 25-year-old is expected to score double digits this campaign.

But if you’re looking for a goalscorer to back, look no further than Mbappe. It doesn’t take an expert tipster to tell you the world’s most dangerous forward is the most likely scorer.

Priced at the generous price of 11/10, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Frenchman announce his arrival in style and leave his mark on Madrid’s first trophy of the season.

Despite an all-conquering end to last season, Real are yet to keep a clean sheet in pre-season, and some leggy performances could benefit the attackers. We’re leaning towards goals and both teams scoring.
