TSG Hoffenheim part ways with coach Andre Breitenreiter amid relegation threat - report
TSG Hoffenheim have reportedly decided to part ways with head coach Andre Breitenreiter, following a string of five winless competitive games.
The decision was made one day after a 5-2 Bundesliga defeat at VfL Bochum, and was reported by "Kicker" and "Bild", despite there being no official confirmation from the club on Sunday evening.
Breitenreiter had been with TSG for only seven months, having come to the club last summer from FC Zurich.
Despite winning the Swiss championship, his tenure at TSG failed to deliver the expected results. With only three points ahead of 16th-placed VfB Stuttgart in the relegation zone, the club appears to have had no choice but to make this difficult decision.
Breitenreiter is the third coach in a row at TSG to have had a short stint, following in the footsteps of Julian Nagelsmann and Alfred Schreuder. Despite their past successes, Hoffenheim's fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in recent times, and the club is now in a battle to avoid relegation.
In a post-match interview after the defeat at Bochum, Breitenreiter stated that the loss was "more than deserved", and that the team failed to fight back in the first-half. He went on to say that the team made mistakes that "don't have much to do with professional football" and that they deserved to lose.
The search for a new coach is likely now underway, as TSG Hoffenheim looks to turn their fortunes around and avoid Bundesliga relegation.
