Tottenham make improved contract offer to Harry Kane - report
Tottenham have made a substantial contract proposal to Harry Kane, aiming to significantly improve his current terms of £200,000 per week.
Tottenham have reportedly tabled a substantial contract offer to Harry Kane, with the aim of significantly improving his current terms of £200,000 per week, as per The Guardian.
However, the star striker is said to have no immediate plans to sign the deal, especially while the transfer window is still open.
The 29-year-old Kane finds himself in the final year of his six-year agreement with Spurs, leading to numerous top clubs, including Bayern Munich, expressing interest in his services. Bayern recently made an initial bid of €70 million, with their manager, Thomas Tuchel, actively pursuing the striker.
Tottenham's stance is adamant: Kane is not up for sale. Chairman Daniel Levy, eager to regain favour after a dismal season, recognizes that losing Kane would further damage his popularity among fans.
Levy is of the opinion that Kane will eventually realize his long-term future is best served by remaining at Spurs, not only due to the financial benefits of the proposed contract. Additionally, there is optimism that Ange Postecoglou, the newly appointed manager, can revive the team. Postecoglou's vision involves an attacking 4-3-3 formation, and with support from Levy and influential chief scout Leonardo Gabbanini, the squad is taking shape accordingly.
Tottenham have already secured the signings of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and midfielder James Maddison, with the announcement of winger Manor Solomon imminent.
The club's immediate focus is bolstering their central defence, potentially acquiring up to three players, given the availability of Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga.
Negotiations are at an advanced stage for the £30 million-rated Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg, while Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen remains another target. Spurs may sign one or the other, with Tapsoba commanding a higher fee of £50 million. The club is reportedly also keen on permanently acquiring Clement Lenglet from Barcelona; the player spent last season on loan with Tottenham. The club hope to convince Barcelona to release Lenglet on a free transfer.
Kane, expected to report for pre-season training early next week, has yet to meet with coach Postecoglou. The player remains open to all options: leaving in the summer, staying for the season before departing as a free agent, or even extending his contract, though the latter seems less likely.
