Southampton talks with former Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch break down as managerial hunt continues
Southampton’s pursuit of former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch appears to be over after talks broke down between both parties.
Negotiations are understood to have collapsed over the length of the proposed contract.
While Saints were hopeful of appointing the American on a short-term deal, Marsch was keen to put pen to paper on a longer offer.
Marsch was sacked by Leeds United earlier this month after less than a year in charge at Elland Road.
The American led the Whites to Premier League safety when he first arrived in West Yorkshire - experience which Southampton were looking to utilise in their own survival bid.
The Premier League relegation favourites are on the lookout for a new manager following the sacking of Nathan Jones.
The Welshman was relieved of his duties just one day after his side suffered a home defeat by 10-man Wolves - a result which left them four points adrift of safety.
First-team coach Ruben Selles will take charge of the team for Saturday's encounter with Chelsea while the club continue to search for a permanent replacement.
Former Everton manager Frank Lampard and current DC United boss Wayne Rooney have been named as possible candidates for the role.
