Sean Dyche backs Dominic Calvert-Lewin to reignite Everton goal scoring form

The 26-year-old has only scored four goals this season, with the last one coming back in October.

Calvert-Lewin was left out of the starting line-up for last weekend's 3-1 Premier League defeat by West Ham, coming on for the closing stages.

Toffees boss Dyche said: "It's finding the moment, taking the moment, and he's well aware of that. No striker has forgotten their record.

"I certainly don't mention it to him. I just want him to work hard, I want him to play for the team, I want him to get in the right areas. I know the quality he's got, I know his aerial power, I know he can finish and different types of finishes. And it'll come.

"It's believing in what we do, believing in himself and continuing to do the right things. Sometimes you need one that comes off your shin but sometimes you can make it come off your shin by just being alert and alive to things that are bouncing around the box."

Beto was preferred to Calvert-Lewin up front against West Ham and scored Everton's goal, but only after he had missed the club's first penalty of the season.

"We want the competitive element," said Dyche. "I thought Beto did a good job. Obviously he missed a penalty but he wanted to take it. He made up for it in the sense that he was still driving into the box, scored a very good header.

"He's not been far away from the thinking anyway but it's finding the balance of the right people at the right time to try and win games."

A lack of goals has been Everton's main Achilles heel, with Dyche's men managing just 29 in their 27 games, the third lowest tally behind bottom two Sheffield United and Burnley.

They have now gone 10 Premier League games without a victory, finding the net only seven times in that run.

"If it was that easy, everyone would do it," said Dyche. "We've shown the right signs, I think everyone knows that, but I spoke last week about the frustration in actually taking the moment.

"It's a team responsibility, it's not about one player. Obviously everyone references strikers but other people are getting chances as well. We've got to continue doing that, that's for sure. That's another challenge.

"It's not easy to create a lot of good chances in football but we are doing that so we've got to at least maintain that and then add the detail at the final moment.

"I think there's a strong belief inside the camp of our goalscoring ability and just having the freedom to go and take these challenges on."

Everton head to Old Trafford on Saturday to take on Manchester United and are likely to again be without midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye, who is struggling with a groin problem.
