For the first time in 2024, former Premier League midfielder Robbie Savage gives us his predictions.

As we head into the new year, the battle at the top of the league continues to intrigue.

Liverpool took full advantage of an Arsenal slip up against West Ham and beat Burnley 2-0 to move two points clear ahead of the pack.

Jurgen Klopp’s men face a potentially tricky test against Newcastle on New Year's Day, meanwhile Brighton travel to West Ham in what could be a thrilling encounter.

Below, ex-Premier League midfielder Robbie Savage looks ahead to the first two Premier League games of 2024. You can find his full list of selections below.

Liverpool vs Newcastle (Mon 20:00 GMT)

All the stats say Liverpool will win this. They’re unbeaten in 14 games against Newcastle home or away. Also, Newcastle with injury problems.

A little bit of pressure is gathering on Eddie Howe. Out of Europe, not sitting too well in the Premier League.

I think they’ve been ahead of their time. There’s no way they should’ve qualified for the Champions League last year. They’ve got lots of injury problems.

I think Newcastle and Eddie Howe, for the first time, are under a little bit of pressure.

They’re going to Anfield where their record is not great. I think Liverpool will win the game, I’m going 3-0 Liverpool win.

West Ham vs Brighton (Tue 19:30 GMT)

West Ham beating Manchester United 2-0, going to Arsenal and winning 2-0 and missing a penalty.

Sixth in the Premier League, winning a European trophy in the calendar year. David Moyes did an unbelievable job – West Ham flying.

Big blow with [Lucas] Paqueta coming off against Arsenal. He’s been one of their best players.

Brighton, on the back of beating Spurs 4-2, this should be a home game. Home advantage will count in this one. David Moyes and his West Ham side to beat Brighton. I’m going with a 2-1 scoreline to the Hammers.
