Real Madrid v Man City: Predictions, tips and bet builder as Citizens eye historic comeback

Real Madrid's head coach Carlo Ancelotti, right, greets Manchester City's head coach Pep Guardiola

Manchester City will be looking to make Champions League history when they travel to Real Madrid for the second leg of their knockout tie (Wednesday, 2000 GMT).

City boss Pep Guardiola has never failed to take his team to the last-16 stage of this competition. However, that record now hangs by a very thin thread as the Manchester outfit look to overturn a 3-2 first leg defeat.

In recent years, Los Blancos have caused the Citizens a great deal of pain in the Champions League, knocking them out in the 2022 semi-final and the 2024 quarter-final.

Revenge is firmly on the agenda for City but making their European dreams come to fruition will be a horribly tricky task.

Here, we take a closer look at Wednesday’s encounter and pick out some of the best bets along the way.

Good luck and please gamble responsibly.

Real Madrid v Man City bet builder

Real Madrid to win – 10/11

Man City to score first – 5/4

Both teams to score – 1/3

Red card in the match – 14/5

Real Madrid to win

Going away to Santiago Bernabeu can be a daunting prospect – especially when it’s the deciding leg of a huge Champions League tie.

Only Barcelona and AC Milan have managed to win at this famous old stadium this season, while Atletico Madrid are the only ones to get a draw.

Man City have made six visits to the ground since 2012 and have only walked away with one win. That came all the way back in 2020.

City struggled to get a result in Madrid when they were at the peak of their powers – that certainly doesn’t bode well for their chances in what has been a rather underwhelming campaign.

With that in mind, we’re putting out chips on white and backing Real Madrid to get the job done.

Man City to score first

While we are backing Real Madrid to get the final result, we are also backing Man City to get the first goal.

Guardiola’s men actually started well in the first leg and only crumbled come the final few minutes.

City fired four goals past Newcastle at the weekend and they’re clearly getting ready to throw everything including the kitchen sink at Los Blancos. On that basis, City to score first is going in our bet builder.

Both teams to score

Priced at 1/3, the both teams to score bet doesn’t offer much value but it serves as a nice little addition to the acca.

Eight of the previous nine meetings have seen this bet land and we expect that trend to continue.

Red card in the match – yes

Jude Bellingham was sent off during Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Osasuna last weekend, but the following suspension won’t take effect in the Champions League.

With stakes far higher than the ones in the Osasuna game, we’re expecting a heated encounter at Santiago Bernabeu.

At 14/5, the odds add plenty of meat to an already juicy accumulator.
