Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes set to miss La Liga match against Villarreal
Real Madrid could have to face Villarreal without forward Rodrygo Goes, who is set to miss the match on Saturday due to knee discomfort.
AS reported that the Brazilian international will be given a break to rest and recover in time for the UEFA Champions League clash against Chelsea next week.
Rodrygo had been in top form recently, displaying impressive performances in the 6-0 route of Real Valladolid and the Copa del Rey semi-final victory against Barcelona. The Los Blancos coaching staff found it difficult to leave him out of the starting XI.
The club confirmed that Rodrygo had been feeling discomfort in his right knee since the match against Real Valladolid. Despite this, he showed determination and commitment by playing in the Barcelona match. However, the 22-year-old was seen training alone with a bandage on his knee earlier on Friday.
Real's coaching staff believe it is best to rest Rodrygo against Villarreal to ensure that he will be in good shape for the game against Chelsea. Rodrygo has scored 11 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions this season and has provided ten assists.
The rest over the next few days is expected to help the young forward recover fully. Real Madrid are currently second in the La Liga table with 59 points, 12 points behind the leaders, Barcelona. Villarreal, on the other hand, sits in sixth place with 44 points.
