Real Madrid face defensive worries ahead of Madrid derby against Atletico
Real Madrid's recent 5-2 Champions League victory over Liverpool may have put them on a high, but their focus must now shift to the upcoming La Liga game against Atletico Madrid.
Unfortunately, according to a report by Marca, there is some bad news on the injury front for Real as both defender David Alaba and forward Rodrygo look to be doubtful starters for Saturday's match.
Alaba suffered a hamstring problem in the Champions League tie against Liverpool and is almost certain to miss the game against Atletico. Nacho Fernandez, who had a solid game after replacing Alaba in the first-half, is expected to take his place.
Rodrygo, on the other hand, faces a late fitness test after coming off with discomfort in his gluteus during the Liverpool game. The Brazilian forward's case seems less serious, but he will still undergo tests to determine whether he can play against Atletico or not.
Atletico also have their own injury concerns, after midfielder Rodrigo de Paul went down with an injury over the weekend.
Despite these setbacks, Real coach Carlo Ancelotti is likely to continue his excellent work with Nacho Fernandez in the left-back spot and make changes in midfield.
Los Blancos will now have to wait and see if they will have the full squad available for the derby against Atletico on Saturday at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
