Rasmus Hojlund: Manchester United great Cristiano Ronaldo is my role model
Manchester United's Rasmus Hojlund admires Cristiano Ronaldo and hopes to follow in his footsteps.
Rasmus Hojlund has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo is his idol, due to the Manchester United legend's unwavering belief in himself.
The Danish striker has recently emulated Ronaldo's path by inking a five-year contract at Old Trafford. This move followed his £72million transfer from Atalanta last week.
Asked if Ronaldo's skill or mentality is the reason for Hojlund's admiration, the 20-year-old told MUTV: "I think both. Definitely his mentality, you know, he had a rough childhood and he came through it.
"He wanted to be the best, and he put that out there very early. I think there's an interview with Anderson, [Rio] Ferdinand and Ronaldo where there was a reporter who asked them who the best football player in the world is and he just said 'me' and I liked this mentality.
"He just put it out there and said at least that he wanted to be the best, and that's the same mentality I go for. I want to be the best version of myself."
Hojlund is now entrusted with leading the Manchester United attack in the coming years, a role in which Ronaldo achieved considerable success, notably during his initial tenure at the club.
Ronaldo's legacy at Old Trafford has attained legendary status, highlighted by his tally of 145 goals for the team and the Ballon d'Or award secured during his time with the Red Devils.
