Ramy Bensebaini embraces challenge of filling Raphael Guerreiro's shoes at Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund's new left-back, Ramy Bensebaini, has taken on the daunting task of stepping into the shoes of Raphael Guerreiro, a club stalwart for seven years.

With 224 appearances in the black and yellow, Guerreiro's departure marked the end of an era, and Bensebaini arrived at Signal Iduna Park from Borussia Monchengladbach on a free transfer to fill the void.

In a recent interview with Ruhr Nachrichten, the Algerian international opened up about the unique challenge of succeeding Guerreiro, acknowledging their distinct playing styles.

Bensebaini shared, "For me personally, it's a special challenge to replace Raphael Guerreiro. He is an absolute top player. I first had to find my footing, as I'm a completely different type of player. But I'm noticing how I'm getting more and more comfortable in the team."

Bensebaini, known for his resolute defending, emphasized that comparing him to Guerreiro would be unfair due to their differing skill sets. He said, "I think it's difficult to compare us because we are different types of players. What I can say about myself is that I always want to win, and I don't want to give up my place in the starting XI. I'll always give 100% and hope I can live up to expectations."

The transition to Dortmund has been promising for Bensebaini, who has garnered praise from fans for his defensive prowess. However, his journey has not been without setbacks. During the recent clash against Hoffenheim, the 28-year-old received his first red card since joining BVB, rendering him unavailable for the upcoming Bundesliga fixture against Union Berlin this weekend.

Despite the absence of a natural backup, Bensebaini does not view his role as left-back for Dortmund as a burden. Instead, he sees it as an opportunity to establish himself at the club.

His unwavering commitment and determination to succeed are evident as he aims to become an integral part of the Dortmund line-up. Bensebaini concluded, "I'll always give 100% and hope I can live up to expectations."
