Newcastle news: Magpies considering summer swoop for Brentford star Ivan Toney
With the transfer window edging ever closer, Newcastle are reportedly looking to make a statement signing this summer with Bees striker Ivan Toney topping their list.
Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been in stellar form this season, scoring 18 goals across all competitions.
With that in mind, it's no surprise that Eddie Howe's side are considering a move for the England international this summer.
The Magpies themselves have had a solid season and are currently residing in the top four.
However, one department that has somewhat lacked over the course of the campaign is their attack.
Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak have been indifferent this season, scoring just 18 goals between them in all competitions.
Although this still seems like a solid return, if the Magpies wish to compete for Champions League places, they need a player who can score upwards of 20 goals per season alone.
This is where Toney comes in. The striker has been in and around the top scorers since Brentford were promoted during the 2020/21 season.
The acquisition of the Swedish international was made in January due to the injury Wilson suffered at the end of December 2021.
He has since been riddled with injuries, much like his teammate, Wilson.
Since Isak joined the club, the pair have missed 21 games between them.
The addition of Toney to Howe's ranks could drastically improve their chances of becoming a European powerhouse.
The fee required to pry the England international from Brentford would be far from minimal. As things stand, his value currently sits at around £44million.
If a move is made in the summer, he would likely be Howe's marquee signing for the transfer window.
