Newcastle v Man Utd: Predictions, tips and bet builder as Magpies look to break record 94 years in the making

Alexander Isak of Newcastle United celebrates
Newcastle will be looking to complete a rare season double over Manchester United when the two teams meet at St James' Park on Sunday (1630 GMT).
A lot has happened since Newcastle last did the double over the Red Devils. We’ve had a world war, many men on the moon, two Donald Trump presidencies and the discovery of countless new genders. You get the point, it’s been a long time.
The Magpies last did the double over their rivals back in 1930/31 – a crazy season which saw Newcastle finish 17th and United stone dead last in 22nd.
The situation at Old Trafford isn’t as desperate as it was back then, but the current 15-point gap between the two teams is just a point more than it was 94 years ago.
Of course, there’s a lot more at stake then just a season double. Newcastle are looking to return to the Champions League and with five teams now guarantees entry to Europe’s elite, the Magpies will fancy their chances.
United have other priorities. Their Europa League campaign now takes precedence considering European qualification via the Premier League is no longer a viable option.
Still, the Red Devils have seven Premier League games remaining to try and make their final placing look semi respectable.
Ending the campaign in the top half of the table would be a small positive in what has been a horrid season for the club. But before the Red Devils can dream of 10th place, they must first close down a daunting seven-point gap (could be more than seven by the time Saturday’s games have come to an end).
Clearly there’s a lot to play for this Sunday night. Here, we take a closer look at the fixture and pick out some of the best bets.
Good luck, and please gamble responsibly.

Newcastle v Man Utd bet builder
Alexander Isak to score anytime – 5/6
Andre Onana +3 total saves – 1/3
Newcastle to win
Eddie Howe’s men head into Sunday’s game on the back of a four-match winning run across all competitions – including the EFL Cup final win over Liverpool.
If that wasn’t enough, the Magpies have won three of their last four against United, including December’s trip to Old Trafford which they won 2-0.
Momentum, form and head-to-head results are all favouring Newcastle. What’s more, with Champions League qualification on the line, you could argue the Magpies will be far more motivated to win than a United side which has put all their eggs in the Europa League basket.
Bearing all that in mind, the only way to go in this one is with a Newcastle win. Priced at 8/13, you can tell which way the bookmakers are going too.
Alexander Isak to score anytime
Alexander Isak has earned a lot of praise this season and rightfully so. The Swedish forward has played a key part in Newcastle’s recent successes, and he continues to deliver goals for Howe’s men.
Isak has scored five goals in his last six appearances for the club, last rattling the net in a 2-1 win over Brentford.
Isak scored earlier this season at Old Trafford and we’re backing him to hurt the United defence for a second time.
Both teams to score
Man United have failed to score a single goal in their last two Premier League matches – surely, they can’t make it three.
Ruben Amorim’s men appeared to make an offensive breakthrough in mid-March when they put four past Real Sociedad and three past Leicester in back-to-back games.
We’re backing United to rediscover their scoring shoes on Sunday and get at least one goal on the scoreboard.
Andre Onana +3 total saves
Considering our high expectations of Newcastle in this game, we expect United keeper Andre Onana to keep busy.
Three or more saves from the United shot stopper is only priced at 1/3. While it makes no sense as a single bet, it is a nice little addition to our bet builder.
