Newcastle lodge big-money bid for AC Milan midfielder - and also want James Maddison
Newcastle United have reportedly lodged a bid of 50million Euros for AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali - and are also weighing up a move for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison.
Newcastle United are planning to reshape their midfield this summer - and have reportedly lodged a bid of 50million Euros for AC Milan's Sandro Tonali.
Eddie Howe's Magpies secured a fourth-placed finish in the 2022/23 Premier League season, securing Champions League football at St James' Park for next season.
Newcastle will be playing in Europe's top tier for the first time since 2003 - and are hoping to ensure it is not a shortlived excursion by improving the quality of their squad options.
Howe is keen to play Bruno Guimaraes in a more advanced role next season - and sees Tonali as someone who can play in multiple midfield roles.
England playmaker James Maddison is also on Newcastle's summer window wanted list following Leicester City's relegation to the Championship.
But with new Foxes manager Enzo Maresca assessing his squad in the East Midlands, The Athletic reports that Newcastle have first moved for 23-year-old Tonali, who has made 78 appearances, scoring seven goals since moving to Milan from Brescia in September 2020.
Chelsea are also believed to be interested in Tonali's services - but Howe's men hold the upper hand with the offer of Champions League football.
