Norwich have signed Dutch forward Sydney van Hooijdonk on loan from Serie A club Bologna, with an option to make the deal permanent.

The 23-year-old, son of former Celtic and Nottingham Forest forward Pierre van Hooijdonk, started his professional career in the Netherlands with Breda before moving to Italy in July 2021.

Van Hooijdonk, capped twice by the Netherlands Under-21s, has also spent time on loan with Heerenveen.

Speaking about the move, the Dutchman was quoted by the Norwich website saying: "The last few days have been hectic. Flying in yesterday and doing all the medicals. But finally, everything is done. I'm really happy.

"The training ground is amazing, and the facilities are great. I think there's everything to perform and work hard.

"I've met almost all the lads, and they're all really nice. It's been a warm welcome."

Sporting director, Ben Knapper added: "We’re all really excited to welcome Sydney to Norwich City. He’s a player of real pedigree and potential, having already had some fantastic experiences in his career to date.

“We’re excited to continue that journey with him, and as both a person and player we feel he’s a great fit for our environment and strategy.

“We can’t wait to start working with him.”
