New Fulham signing Alex Iwobi reveals why this was the right time to leave Everton
New Fulham signing Alex Iwobi wants to repay the faith shown in him by manager Marco Silva after the Portuguese signed him for the second time.
The Nigeria international’s reported £22million move to Craven Cottage from Everton was finally completed a couple of hours after the deadline as the paperwork on the deal was submitted ahead of the 11pm cut-off.
Silva recruited the former Arsenal midfielder at Goodison Park in the summer of 2019 and after four years, the 27-year-old has returned to London on a five-year contract.
“Marco Silva spoke to me about the ambitions of the club and I’m on board. I am hoping I can bring something to the club,” Iwobi told FFCtv.
“Second time is the charm I guess. I hope I am able to repay the faith.
“I’m back at home – which has a part to play – and the pull of Marco and how he appreciates me as a player gives you a confidence boost.
“He believes in my abilities and it is something I need when I am playing football to express myself so I can’t wait to work under him.
“I feel like I’ve spent a good amount of time at Everton; I respect them but I feel like it is time for a new challenge back in London and I want to see where my career goes.”
