Marco Reus joins MLS looking for a new challenge with LA Galaxy
Marco Reus has made headlines with his much-anticipated move to Major League Soccer (MLS), joining LA Galaxy.
The 35-year-old expressed his excitement in an interview with media, highlighting his desire to emulate the successes of former Galaxy stars like Steven Gerrard, David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Reus, who played a crucial role in Borussia Dortmund's success over the years, was candid about his decision to leave Europe.
"It was clear to me that I definitely didn't want to stay in the Bundesliga," Reus said, explaining that he sought a completely different experience for the latter part of his career.
"To be honest, Europe wasn't an option for me either, because I want to do something completely different at the end of my career. Something else linguistically, something else for my family."
The decision to move to LA Galaxy was influenced by early contact with the club, which quickly captured Reus's interest. "The contact with LA Galaxy came very early," he shared, adding that he was immediately intrigued by the idea of living in Los Angeles.
"The surroundings are interesting. It's not a bad idea to live here."
Despite his move to the United States, Reus acknowledged the uncertainty of what lies ahead. "In the Bundesliga, you always had the feeling, even when you were playing away, that there were so many spectators supporting you.
"I don't know if it's the same here, but at least I'll get to figure that out and some more things about football in general."
Reus's illustrious career in Germany includes stints with Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund, where he became a fan favourite and team captain. He won numerous titles, including two DFB-Pokal trophies and three DFL-Supercups, and scored over 150 goals for Dortmund.
Reus also earned 48 caps with the Germany national team, cementing his legacy as one of the nation's footballing greats.
As he embarks on this new chapter with LA Galaxy, Reus is determined to leave his mark on MLS, aspiring to become a champion once more. "I want to become champion with the club here," he stated, reflecting his ambition to continue his legacy in a new footballing landscape.
