Man Utd overhaul could see TWENTY players leave Old Trafford in the summer - but who are they?
Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to be the most high-profile departure but Fred is staying.
Manchester United's 4-1 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend left them 22 points off the Premier League summit and provided a graphic illustration of the gulf between the two sides.
With a rebuilding job in the offing for whoever is in charge of United next season, Graeme Bailey assesses the current squad and reveals the players who won't be at Old Trafford when the 2022/23 campaign kicks off.
1. David de Gea - STAYING
The most consistent performer in United's squad and one of their few world-class talents. He isn't going anywhere.
2. Victor Lindelof - COULD GO
Will be allowed to leave but others may be shown the exit door before him.
3. Eric Bailly - LEAVING
The Ivorian needs a move and it's unlikely he stays beyond the summer.
4. Phil Jones - COULD GO
Believe it or not, he still has a year left on his deal. Was told he could go back in 2020, but he is still hanging around.
5. Harry Maguire - STAYING
The United captain is getting a lot of stick for his form and attitude both on and off the pitch, but he isn't leaving.
6. Paul Pogba - LEAVING
The French superstar is available on a Bosman. He could sign a new deal at Old Trafford but he won't. He is on his way.
7. Cristiano Ronaldo - LEAVING
8. Juan Mata - LEAVING
Already on his farewell tour, he is set to leave in the summer.
10. Marcus Rashford - COULD GO
Clearly not wanted by Ralf Rangnick, he could very well be one of the big-name departures this summer.
11. Mason Greenwood - LEAVING
Currently suspended, he is unlikely to play for the club again.
13. Lee Grant - COULD GO
Out of contract in the summer the 39-year-old keeper could be another one of the door.
14. Jesse Lingard - LEAVING
The England forward is out of contract in the summer and despite his lack of game-time, it is not beyond the realms of fantasy that he might stay. However, with interim boss Rangnick going upstairs, his fate appears sealed
17. Fred - STAYING
While United and their fans may wish to jettison about two-thirds of their players, including Fred, it simply won't happen. Fred will stay.
18. Bruno Fernandes - STAYING
Has been up and down this season, but there's little doubt he is a key performer for United - he is staying.
19. Raphael Varane - STAYING
Could he be tempted to leave? Possibly. But United have not seen the real Varane. He will get a chance to prove his worth as he won't be going.
20. Diogo Dalot - COULD GO
A tough one. Rangnick likes him but he needs a new deal. There is strong interest in him so he could go if he doesn't get the guarantees.
21. Edinson Cavani - LEAVING
Out of contract, he wanted to leave last summer and does not look like he wants to play for Rangnick. He is on his way out.
22. Tom Heaton - STAYING
Under contract and does his job as a dependable goalkeeping back-up.
23. Luke Shaw - STAYING
Another who has been up and down this season. And while he could be replaced as first-choice left-back, it is unlikely he will depart.
25. Jadon Sancho - STAYING
The huge summer signing has not hit the heights expected of him but there have been tantalising glimpses that he is coming to terms with the Premier League. He will be staying.
26. Dean Henderson - LEAVING
The England goalkeeper can't shift David de Gea and has told the club he wants out. They will grant his wish this summer.
27. Alex Telles - COULD GO
Has filled in admirably this season but if another left-back comes in then he is likely to be on his way.
29. Aaron Wan-Bissaka - COULD GO
Has failed to live up to expectations and looks way off it. Could very well be moved on but that is easier said than done.
31. Nemanja Matic - LEAVING
Has found life tough this season and is unlikely to be in the plans of the next manager.
36. Anthony Elanga - STAYING
The brightest prospect at Old Trafford despite a chastening Manchester derby debut, he isn't going anywhere.
39. Scott McTominay - STAYING
Not a star, but a reliable cog in the United midfield and one that will be around for 2022/23.
Currently not at the club...
9. Anthony Martial - LEAVING
Has made it clear he wants to go. Currently on loan at Sevilla and unlikely to be back at Old Trafford next season.
33. Brandon Williams - COULD GO
Much will depend on who the new manager is, but it is fair to assume the 21-year-old, currently on loan at Norwich, will secure another loan move.
34. Donny van de Beek - COULD GO
Another loanee who may benefit from a new manager. Rangnick is not a huge fan so that points towards an exit.
37. James Garner - STAYING
Has been impressive during his spell at Nottingham Forest and he looks likely to get a chance for United next term.
38. Axel Tuanzebe - LEAVING
Has never looked like establishing at Old Trafford and after loan spells at Aston Villa and Napoli, his chance looks to have gone.
