Manchester United defender Eric Bailly completes his season-long loan move to Marseille
Manchester United’s Eric Bailly will have an opportunity to test himself in the Champions League after completing his season-long loan move to French powerhouse Marseille.
The Ligue 1 club have an option to buy should the player impress during his spell at Stade Velodrome and if he makes a certain amount of appearances. Marseille will also cover the player's wages during the 2022/23 campaign.
The Ivory Coast international will have an opportunity to compete in the top echelon of European football, with Marseille bagging their spot in the Champions League thanks to their second-placed finish in Ligue 1 last season.
The defender has struggled for game time at Old Trafford, racking up 20 Premier League appearances in his last three campaigns.
Bailly arrived in Manchester from Villarreal in 2016 for a reported fee of £30million.
The player was Jose Mourinho's first signing at Old Trafford and was handed a four-year contract.
Since making his debut in a 2-1 Community Shield win over Leicester, Bailly has made 113 appearances for the Red Devils.
He is now joining a Marseille side which is undergoing a massive overhaul of talent.
Igor Tudor's side kicked off the season with two wins and a draw despite making 11 permanent signings over the summer.
One of those signings is Bailly's former United teammate Alexis Sanchez. The Chile international completed his switch from Inter Milan earlier in August.
