Man Utd: Erik ten Hag makes Scott McTominay admission amid transfer uncertainty
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has opened up on the future of Scott McTominay as the club looks to make serious personnel changes ahead of the new season.
McTominay made 27 appearances across all competitions for United last season and ended the campaign as the third-joint highest goalscorer with 10 efforts to his name.
According to reports, the Red Devils could be about to embark on a mass transfer exodus ahead of the new season, with the number of players leaving Old Trafford expected to hit double figures.
Those same reports suggest that McTominay could be one of those names after eight long seasons with Manchester United.
However, manager ten Hag was quick to slam those rumours saying: “We have very good players so there will always be an interest from other clubs.
“When you score 10 goals in a season and also perform very good for Scotland, then there will be an interest.
“But we want to keep him because he is a very important player for our squad.
“What he can contribute, as we saw last season once we had our sixes available, he could play in a more advanced role and he is a highly interesting player for our team.”
Ten Hag was speaking after his men picked up their first win of their pre-season campaign.
The Red Devils picked up a 2-0 victory over Rangers, with Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill getting on the scoresheet.
When asked further about transfer business, the Dutchman added: "We want to have a strong squad, as strong as possible and I think at this moment the football leadership is on the front foot.
"That’s what clubs like Man United should do and so we are very pleased that we have done business.
"We have Yoro in, we have Zirkzee in, we have two big assets with big potential for the future. But when I say future, the future starts today."
