Paris Saint-Germain have announced the signing of defender Lucas Hernández from Bayern Munich on a five-year contract.
Paris Saint-Germain have announced the signing of Lucas Hernández.
The French international defender will wear the number 21.
A French international since March 2018, Lucas Hernández played a key role in Didier Deschamps' side's incredible run in the World Cup in Russia a few months later. The left-footed defender started every match at the World Cup, and provided two assists. The first one in the Round of 16 win over Argentina (4-3) and another one in the final against Croatia (4-2).
The 27-year-old, who is the older brother of Theo Hernandez, has now made 33 appearances for Les Bleus, and added a victory in the 2021 UEFA Nations League to his list of international honours. After suffering a serious injury against Australia in France's opening match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, Lucas Hernández has not pulled on the blue jersey since.
His solid record at international level echoes the many titles that he has won during his various experiences at club level. In 2018, he won the Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup with Atlético Madrid, the club with which he made his professional debut in 2014.
A versatile player who can play at either left-back or centre-back, Lucas Hernández eventually joined Bayern Munich in 2019, where he quickly established himself as a key player.
By 2020, he had won no fewer than six trophies with the Bavarian club: the Champions League, the Bundesliga, another UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, the German Cup and the German Super Cup. Lucas Hernández was crowned German champion again in 2021, 2022 and 2023, and won the German Super Cup in 2022.
"I'm really excited! I've been waiting to join PSG for a long time, and it's finally happened. It's a very special day for me and I'm very happy to be here," said Hernández.
