A win for Leicester City against Brentford in the Premier League on Friday would be enough to leapfrog Ipswich and Wolves at the bottom of the table.

On the other hand, this is the first of a crucial back-to-back in the Bees' season. Arguably, it’s their last chance to announce themselves as a European contender before a challenging seven-game stint.

It feels like the Foxes have added something to their game since Ruud Van Nistelrooy took over, with spirited losses at the hands of Aston Villa and Manchester United a cruel twist of fate.

But in reality, the Dutchman has produced three wins and a draw across 14 matches in all competitions, an even worse return than Steve Cooper managed in the 14 games prior.

With a tough run of fixtures affecting their home form, Thomas Frank’s side have taken up winning on the road, vanquishing Southampton, Crystal Palace and West Ham in recent weeks.

The Bees have suffered from injury problems this season, but they’ll field a particularly strong team on Friday, one that can account for 42 of the 43 goals they’ve scored.

There may be some lingering question marks in defensive areas, yet Brentford’s prolific pairing of Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo, ably assisted by Mikkel Damsgaard, should be able to slice the Foxes open.

The Bees deadly duo have matched the 25 goals Leicester have scored all by themselves, with their -30 goal difference the second worst in the Premier League.

Mbeumo’s man-of-the-match performance against Southampton saw the Cameroon lash in a brace and assist Keane Lewis-Potter in applying the icing to the cake late on.

Averaging 2.08 shots per 90 minutes, Brentford’s sharpshooter is one of the most accurate in the league. He’s producing 1.16 shots on target per 90 minutes.

Odds of 8/15 don’t excite us, so we’ll take him to make the most of weaker opposition and test the keeper twice on the night.

Only one side has been shown more yellow cards than Leicester at home, who average 2.38 per contest. Referee Tony Harrington won’t hesitate to get his book out, flashing 54 cards in 13 contests.

If this game goes the way we’re anticipating and City is second best, it should be a given that they see yellow at least twice.
