Leeds United transfer news: Sources say Glen Kamara could be about to depart Elland Road
According to sources, Glen Kamara is likely to leave Leeds United this transfer window with Ligue 1 club Rennes circling
Glen Kamara joined Leeds United for a fee in the region of £5.5 million last summer but sources are suggesting that he could be set to leave.
Just 12 months after joining the Whites from Rangers, rumours circulated that Ligue 1 Rennes enquired about the Finnish midfielder.
He made 40 appearances in the Championship last season, often partnering Bulgarian international Ilia Gruev in the midfield.
Club journalists quickly rubbished the idea of Leeds’ number eight leaving as he’s seen as an important part of Daniel Farke’s team.
However, Rennes’ sporting director has since confirmed their interest and they likely have the funds to make a move after selling Enzo Le Fee to Roma for £23 million.
While online speculation suggested a fee of around £5 million could prise Kamara away, Leeds are under no pressure to sell and likely value him north of £6 million.
In a further twist, a source close to Leeds United revealed on Friday night that Kamara is likely to be the next player to leave Elland Road as outgoings continue.
Joe Rothwell’s arrival on Thursday was met with some relief that United were active in the transfer market, even if some fans described the loan signing as ‘underwhelming’.
The latest development begs the question of whether Rothwell is competition for the Fin or if he’s seen as a direct replacement.
Supporters will be understandably twitchy with pre-season underway and so much work to do in terms of incomings, especially as a disrupted start to last season arguably cost Farke’s side automatic promotion.
