Leeds United news: Sky pundit claims Illan Meslier 'has to do better' following loss at Fulham

Illan Meslier, the goalkeeper of Leeds United

The Leeds United goalkeeper has come under fire yet again as the Whites fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Fulham.

Illan Meslier has been singled out following his performance in Leeds United's 2-1 loss to Fulham.

The French goalkeeper didn't deal with a cross from Willian which resulted in Leeds going 1-0 down.

Before the match started, the goalkeeper was the owner of a rather unfortunate statistic which stated that of the last ten shots on target, the keeper he had conceded each time.

Sky pundit, Sue Smith, was watching the game and claimed that Meslier "had to do better."

She said: "Meslier should do better with the cross but you can't take anything away from Wilson's strike."

"Meslier has to do better. He's got to either collect it or to palm it away from danger."

The goalkeeper was also at fault for Fulham's second goal.

Meslier parried the ball into the path of Andreas Pereira who calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Before the match, Pereira had only scored once in his last 16 Premier League outings.

Smith added: "Leeds committed men forward and it was too easy for Fulham to break.

"Pereira starts it off centrally driving, plays the ball out to the left-hand side to Robinson. He gets a delivery into the box.

"He's got to either collect it or to palm it away from danger. He just palms it straight into Pereira, who'd continued his run and it's a tap-in for him."

Leeds' luck can't only be whittled down to the bad form of Meslier, however, as their defence has been shocking this season.

Despite signing Maximilian Wober and Rasmus Kristiensen this season, Leeds' defence is still the weakest area of their squad.
Injuries must also be taken into account as star centre-back, Robin Koch, has only just returned from a long-term injury.

Today's result leaves the team 16th in the table, just one point clear of relegation.
