Leeds United ready fresh bid for Tottenham Hotspur’s Oliver Skipp as Glen Kamara departs

Leeds United are eyeing up a fresh bid for Tottenham Hotspur’s Oliver Skipp as midfielder Glen Kamara leaves Elland Road to join Ligue 1 outfit Rennes.

Planet Sport understands Leeds United will launch a fresh bid to bring Oliver Skipp to Elland Road after Glen Kamara has left to join Ligue 1 side Rennes.

The Finnish midfield has signed on the dotted line with the French club after 12 months of service in Yorkshire, leaving for £8.4m, a fee which represents a sizeable profit.

Kamara, 28, made 40 appearances for the Yorkshire club as he nailed down a starting spot as Leeds’ number eight.

However, despite being a consistent and efficient performer, Kamara has received some criticism for his lack of goal involvement, with fans feeling they need a more attack-minded player in the role.

Kamara becomes the second high-profile midfield departure after Archie Gray joined Tottenham Hotspur for a fee in the region of £35 million.

Planet Sport understands that Oliver Skipp was a part of those negotiations, but Spurs weren’t willing to consider an approach at this stage in the window.

Instead, Daniel Farke’s side were able to secure the much-heralded return of Joe Rodon, who played a starring role as Leeds reached the play-off final last season.

Skipp, who has made at least 20 appearances in each of the last three seasons, was largely limited to cameos and providing cover, as he featured for an average of 35 minutes.

The defensive midfielder played for Farke when his Norwich side achieved promotion to the Premier League in the 2020/21 Championship season.

Though Leeds are well stocked in that area, Ilia Gruev is considered a potential successor to Kamara in a more advanced role, allowing Ethan Ampadu to feature in his preferred position.

We understand that Spurs are keen to secure a replacement for Skipp before agreeing to any deal, which could see him join Leeds on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
