In the opening La Liga clash of 2024, defender Mika Marmol has emerged as a linchpin for Las Palmas, the formidable first opponent for Barcelona this year.
The Catalan giants co-own 50% of Marmol's playing rights with the Canarian outfit and are closely monitoring potential transfer prospects, anticipating a lucrative return. However, navigating this deal has proven challenging, according to sources at Mundo Deportivo.
Coach Garcia Pimienta's side are aware of various clubs expressing interest, yet none have met the minimum financial threshold. The 22-year-old Marmol carries a €30 million release clause, with Atletico Madrid expressing interest due to Simeone's admiration for the player. Despite Atletico lowering the asking price by more than half, Las Palmas remain unconvinced.
Complicating matters further, any proposed amount will be split with Barcelona, rendering the income insufficient for the Canarian club to secure a reliable replacement from the transfer market.
Marmol is being eyed by Atletico Madrid as a potential successor to 32-year-old defender Stefan Savic, who has recently lost his starting status at the club.
