Barcelona open to selling Ferran Torres to fund Lionel Messi return - report
Barcelona are reportedly needing to sell some of their current underperforming players and Ferran Torres is one such player who could be sold by the club.
As FC Barcelona begin planning for the next season, they are looking to bring in reinforcements to compete in domestic and European competitions.
However, to do so, they need to sell some of their current underperforming players. Ferran Torres is one such player who could be sold by the club.
Torres joined Barcelona in January 2021 from Manchester City for around €50million, with the hopes of becoming the future leader of the attack. However, his evolution has been inconsistent, with spectacular misses and a lack of consistency in front of the goal.
While Torres possesses the quality to compete at a high level, he is not considered untouchable, and the club will not stop him from leaving if a good offer arrives. According to English outlet talkSPORT, Aston Villa have reportedly expressed an interest in the Spanish forward, while Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is also a long-standing admirer of the 23-year-old.
Barcelona do need to raise funds to make a possible return of Lionel Messi feasible, and selling Torres could be one way to do so. Torres, along with Ansu Fati and Raphinha, is one of the players that have a real possibility of leaving Camp Nou this summer.
The fact that Mateu Alemany, who recently announced his will to step aside from the directorial role of Barcelona at the end of the season, is very likely to continue his career at Aston Villa, also boosts the probability of the transfer.
Torres' future at Barcelona is uncertain, and it remains to be seen if the club will sell him to raise funds for other transfers.
