Real Madrid sensation Eduardo Camavinga set for contract extension - report
Real Madrid's midfield maestro Eduardo Camavinga who joined the club from Stade Rennais for €30million in the summer of 2021, has become a pivotal player in Los Blancos' pursuit of glory.
Despite a slow start due to the competition from midfield stalwarts Toni Kroos, Casemiro, and Luka Modric, the 20-year-old Camavinga has emerged as a game-changer, particularly in the Champions League and La Liga.
As a super-sub, Camavinga has turned the tide in crucial matches, such as Real Madrid's stunning comeback against PSG in March 2022, where he helped secure a 3-2 win from a 2-0 deficit. His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, and talks of a contract extension have already surfaced.
Camavinga's agent, Jonathan Barnett, expressed the player's unwavering commitment to Real Madrid, saying, "He wants to be at Real Madrid his entire life. There will be no problems with Madrid, we will sit down and I'm sure we will reach an agreement," as quoted by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
Although Camavinga initially faced challenges under Carlo Ancelotti this season, as Aurelien Tchouameni took over Casemiro's role, injuries and a dip in form for Tchouameni have given Camavinga more opportunities in the starting line-up. The young midfielder has showcased his versatility, excelling as a defensive midfielder, while also covering advanced midfield and even left-back positions when needed.
Camavinga's defensive prowess was on full display in Real Madrid's commanding 4-0 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Coa del Rey on 5 April, where he effectively neutralized Raphinha on the wing, earning praise from pundits and fans alike.
Club President Florentino Perez is reportedly a staunch admirer of Camavinga's talents and aims to reward him with a contract extension that includes a staggering €1billion release clause, according to respected journalist Jorge C Picon.
With negotiations underway, Real Madrid are determined to secure Camavinga's future and keep him in their ranks for years to come.
