Jayden Bogle will miss Sheffield United friendly to finalise transfer to Leeds United
Jayden Bogle has been permitted to miss Sheffield United’s friendly with Chesterfield on Saturday, as the right-back edges towards a move to Leeds United.
Sheffield United right-back Jayden Bogle has been permitted to miss Sheffield United’s pre-season clash with Chesterfield this weekend to complete a move to Leeds United.
The Whites submitted two bids earlier this month but were knocked back, with some distance between the clubs’ valuation of the player.
Bogle, who turns 24 next week, is in the final year of his Sheffield United contract and has failed to agree a new deal.
That has put the club in a compromising position and with finances tighter in the Championship than they were in the Premier League, the Blades have been forced to sell.
Losing their first-choice right-back to a potential promotion contender will come as a blow to Chris Wilder’s side, who are already in the market for numerous new signings.
Should Bogle complete a move to Elland Road, he will become the 14th member of last year’s squad to have departed or returned to their parent club this summer.
But the Blades have been particularly shrewd with incomings, signing Kieffer Moore for a small fee and securing Jamie Shackleton, Callum O’Hare and Sam McCallum on free transfers.
Daniel Farke’s side have welcomed back Joe Rodon on a permanent deal from Tottenham, with Archie Gray going the other way.
Gray’s departure secured a vast influx of cash for the club, but coupled with Luke Ayling’s departure on a free transfer to Middlesbrough, left Farke painfully short at right-back.
Versatile midfielder Joe Rothwell, who spent last season on loan at play-off winners Southampton, arrived on loan from Bournemouth earlier in July.
The Leeds head coach also offered more hope to fans in the wake of Friday’s 3-0 win against Harrogate Town, as he opened the door to Max Wober’s return to the fold.
But Bogle’s signing would represent the first big move that matches the ambitious claims of the 49ers, who promised supporters they would be ‘aggressive’ in this window.
Barring any complications, the expectation is the right-back will iron out the final details of his move this weekend before completing a medical at Thorp Arch.
