James Milner: Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler's style reminds me of Jurgen Klopp

Fabian Hurzeler

James Milner has expressed admiration for newly appointed Brighton head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, who shares some traits with former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

At 38, Milner, one of the oldest serving players in the Premier League and with the second-most appearances in the league's history, has signed a 12-month contract extension with the Seagulls.

In contrast, Hurzeler, at 31, is the youngest-ever permanent head coach in the Premier League.

"There is a good mix of the last manager [Roberto De Zerbi], who was build-up orientated, but maybe a bit of Jurgen Klopp thrown in," said Milner.

"In terms of how we defend especially, the focus is on high intensity, counter-pressing and quick reactions to turnovers.

"The manager has put his own stamp and intensity on things, he wants us to play front foot with and without the ball."

Born in February 1993 in the United States to German parents, Hurzeler's appointment has been welcomed by Brighton's chief executive, Paul Barber, who described him as "humble, smart, and a great communicator."

Meanwhile, Milner's extension comes at a crucial time for Brighton, following the departure of Pascal Gross to Borussia Dortmund and ongoing discussions about Billy Gilmour's potential exit.

The club's summer strategy has focused on youth, with all five new signings being 24 years old or younger.
