Famalicao reject £5m bid from ‘English club’ for Wolves target Francisco Moura

Portuguese side Famalicao have rejected a £5 million bid from an English club for left-back Francisco Moura, who is reportedly a target for Wolves.

Famalicao have rejected a £5 million bid from an unnamed ‘English club’, thought to be Wolves, for left-back Francisco Moura.

Moura, who will turn 25 at the start of the Premier League season, made 33 appearances as a left-back last term, while also filling in at left midfield three times.

The Braga academy prospect graduated to the B team in 2018 and went on to make 32 appearances for Braga in the Liga Portugal.

Recognising his potential but struggling to find a starting berth for him, Braga sent him out on loan to Famalicao in 2022, before sanctioning a move in 2023, insisting on a sell-on clause.

It’s understood that Wolverhampton Wanderers made contact with the player’s agents as well as the club in early June to explore the possibility of a deal.

After receiving the green light from Moura himself, it seems as if an official bid has been launched.

Reports at the time suggested the player could cost as much as £8.5 million, but it’s been revealed that his contract contains a buy-out clause, which is just €7.5 million.

While the fee would represent a €6.5 million profit on top of the club's original investment, half of any fee would be owed to Moura's previous club Braga, who have a 50% sell-on clause.

The Portuguese would fit the profile that Gary O’Neil would want from a left-sided player, given his tendency to tinker with formations based on opponent.

Rayan Ait-Nouri was a standout performer for Wolves last season, operating at left-back, left-wing back and on the left side of midfield.

Moura’s arrival will add greater depth to O’Neil’s squad while also protecting against a potential departure should someone make a bid for Ait-Nouri.

The club is expected to return with a second bid in the coming days.
