Euro 2022 news: Germany dismantle Denmark as Martina Voss-Tecklenburg hails ‘dominant’ display

Germany, who arrived at Euro 2022 somewhat under the radar, put the entire tournament on notice after thumping Denmark in Brentford.

Despite winning eight of the last ten European Championship titles, the Germans lingered behind the likes of Spain, England, France and the Netherlands in the outright markets.

Martina Voss-Tecklenburg's team certainly reaffirmed their status as one of the top tournament contenders after demolishing Denmark 4-0 in their Group B opener.

Lina Magull, Lea Schuller, Lena Lattwein and Alexandra Popp were all on the scoresheet as the Germans convincingly overcame the 2017 runners-up.

"We played an outstanding game," Voss-Tecklenburg told uefa.com.

"We were at it right away and created plenty of scoring chances that we didn't really take advantage of in the first half.
"We were incredibly dominant and aggressive. It was a great team effort by everyone involved."

Germany dominated proceedings from the very first whistle and hit the woodwork on multiple occasions as the Danes were spared further embarrassment.

Schuller said: "We played ourselves into a frenzy; what a first game! I don't know what to say.
"We're all delighted. Our attacking pressing worked very well, that was one of the main reasons we played like we did.
"A 4-0 win in an opening game is outstanding."
Denmark boss Lars Sondergaard was understandably disappointed by the result, saying: "The game did not go the way we had hoped and there are lots of reasons for that.
"Firstly because Germany played really well, they pressed high and we tried to free ourselves from their press but that didn't work and after a few good minutes we basically just went under."
