  • Eric Garcia Set To Return To FC Barcelona Following Girona FC Loan Move

Eric Garcia set to return to FC Barcelona following Girona FC loan move

Eric Garcia is poised to be a central figure in Saturday's showdown at Montilivi between Girona FC and FC Barcelona, a match crucial for the La Liga runner-up spot.

The defender, 23, currently on loan from Barcelona to Girona, has emerged as a linchpin in Michel's squad, on the brink of securing a historic first-time qualification for the Champions League.

In an interview with SPORT, Eric acknowledges ahead of the game that he will return to Barcelona next season. "When the season ends, I'll go back to Barça. I have a contract and we'll talk to the club to see what's next," explains the international centre-back.

When asked about the possibility of renewing his loan with Girona, he responds, "For now, I'll return to Barca, it's my club. Obviously, I've been very well here in Girona, they've treated me very well, especially if we achieve what we're on the verge of achieving."

Eric, who joined Barcelona from Manchester City in July 2021 after coming up through the club's youth ranks, decided to accept Girona's offer as the summer transfer window was closing, and both clubs arranged a loan deal.

In Girona, Eric has found the confidence that eluded him upon his return to the Blaugrana. "The first year was tough. There was a change in coach, then we picked up and made it to the Champions League.

"The second season was very good, and we won the league. Individually, I didn't get all the minutes I wanted, so I made the decision to leave," he declares.

The remaining fixtures for Girona in La Liga this season are against - FC Barcelona, Alaves, Villarreal, Valencia and Granada.
