Emre Can commits to Borussia Dortmund by signing a new contract
Emre Can has signed a two-year deal with Borussia Dortmund, with the option for an additional year.
Borussia Dortmund's midfielder Emre Can has officially penned a fresh two-year deal with the club, offering the option for an additional year, as per reports from Bild.
Despite taking a pay cut from his previous €9.5 million per annum salary, the German international now has a contract loaded with performance-based bonuses.
Since joining the Westfalenstadion in January 2020 from Juventus, Can faced a challenging period with inconsistent form, leading to speculation about his potential departure.
However, the 29-year-old has undergone a remarkable transformation under the guidance of Dortmund coach, Edin Terzic, emerging as a pivotal player and instrumental to the team's pursuit of the Bundesliga title.
Impressively showcasing his adaptability at centre-back and in the holding midfield position, Can has convinced sporting director Sebastian Kehl to extend his stay at the club.
With several influential midfielders already departing, Dortmund aim to bolster their squad by targeting Bayern Munich's Marcel Sabitzer in the summer transfer window, despite the recent acquisition of Felix Nmecha from Wolfsburg.
Can's renewed commitment to Dortmund brings excitement and hope for a bright future, backed by his exceptional performances and dedication to the team's success.
