Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssoufa Moukoko joins Nice on loan with option to buy
Teenage forward Youssoufa Moukoko has joined French Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice on loan from Borussia Dortmund with an option to buy.
Nice have the option to make Moukoko's transfer permanent for a fee of around €17 million. The young striker was eager to leave Borussia Dortmund before the end of the transfer window which closes in a few days, having grown frustrated with his limited playing time.
Although potential moves to Marseille and Real Betis ultimately fell through, Nice emerged as a serious contender and expressed strong interest in acquiring him.
Moukoko made history in 2020 by becoming the youngest player to feature in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League at just 16 years old. Shortly after, he also became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the German top flight.
Despite often being utilized as a substitute, Moukoko has managed to score 18 goals across 99 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund. Last season, he made four appearances as Dortmund advanced to the Champions League final, although he remained an unused substitute in their defeat to Real Madrid at Wembley.
"Borussia Dortmund will always be a special club for me. I celebrated great success here as a young player, turned professional, played in the Bundesliga and the Champions League and was nominated for the national team. I would like to thank all the managers, coaches, players, staff and fans who have accompanied and supported me along the way," Moukoko said.
Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl explained the need for the starlet to be playing regularly to aid his development.
"There is a lot of competition in our attack at the moment. It would therefore have been difficult for Youssoufa to get enough match practice in the coming months to develop further at a high level. We wish Youssoufa maximum success for the current season and will remain in close contact with him."
