Attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has bid an emotional farewell to RB Leipzig after signing for Liverpool.
Szoboszlai joined RB Leipzig from FC Red Bull Salzburg in January 2021, but didn't make an appearance in the first half of the year due to a long-term injury.
He celebrated his debut for RBL on 7th August 2021, when he was substituted on in the 78th minute of RBL's DFB-Pokal first-round match against SV Sandhausen and scored three minutes later to make it 4-0. He made 45 appearances in all competitions over the course of that season, scoring ten goals and making nine assists. He also won the DFB-Pokal with RBL, their first cup title.
In the season just gone, "Szobo" became a regular player for the team, playing 46 of the 49 games of the season, again scoring ten goals and recording 13 assists.
The captain of the Hungary national team (32 senior caps, 7 goals) was named "2022 Hungarian Footballer of the Year", and crowned off the 2022/23 season with his goal in the DFB-Pokal final against Eintracht Frankfurt, securing a second cup title.
Overall, he played 91 games for RB Leipzig, scoring 20 goals and setting up 22.
The playmaker reflected on his team in Germany.
"It has been an intense and above all successful few years at RB Leipzig," he said.
"I have met lots of people on and off the pitch who have really helped me in my development. I matured in Leipzig and have been able to learn a lot, so I have a lot to thank the club for.
When I came to Leipzig in 2021, it was a difficult period for me as I couldn't help the team as I wanted due to the injury. But I was confident I would bounce back and perform.
Thank you to the team, everyone at the club and especially our fans. We have achieved so much in the past two years. These experiences and successes stay with you and I am very proud of having been a part of this team and a part of this special history.

I am starting a new chapter at Liverpool and it is a great opportunity for me in England to make the next step."
