David Moyes confident Danny Ings still has a role to play West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes is adamant striker Danny Ings still has a future at the club despite his dip in form and interest from elsewhere in the Premier League.

Ings, 31, joined the Hammers a year ago from Aston Villa for £15million as Moyes tried to steer them away from relegation trouble.

The former England striker had an immediate impact, scoring twice in a crucial victory over Nottingham Forest.

But he has scored only once in the intervening 36 matches, against Gent in the Europa Conference League last April.

Ings has been linked with a January move to Wolves but his wages are understood to be an issue.

Hammers boss Moyes said: “We brought Danny in when we were really short of centre-forward options and we wanted someone that could score in the Premier League.

“We wanted someone to hit the ground running. I can remember him scoring two against Nottingham Forest when we probably needed the goals to make sure we weren’t in a relegation battle last year.

“Danny has played his part and he’s probably wanted more minutes than we’ve been able to offer him, but there are circumstances that have affected the situation.

“If you look at the form of the forward players, there’s Michail Antonio and we’re using Jarrod Bowen now, so it’s been pretty hard for him. But overall Danny Ings is a really good player and really good professional to work with as well.

“Can it work out for him? I think that’s more a question for Danny Ings rather than me.

“All I can say is, we really like him. He works hard and tries to be the best he can be every day. We’re really supportive of him.”

With Bowen, Antonio and Lucas Paqueta injured and Mohammed Kudus on international duty with Ghana, Ings is set to start at Sheffield United on Sunday.
