FA Cup: Liverpool and Chelsea advance but West Ham crash out at Southampton

The FA Cup quarter-finals are shaping up, with Chelsea and Liverpool securing their spots in the hat.

Chelsea and Liverpool cruised into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Wednesday night, but West Ham suffered disappointment at Southampton.

Despite reeling from the news that the club had been put up for sale by Roman Abramovich, Chelsea still had too much for Championship side Luton Town after Kenilworth Roard, eventually earning a 3-2 win.

Chelsea fell behind in just the second minute and were trailing at the break too, but they were able to come back each time courtesy of goals from Saul Niguez and Timo Werner before Romelu Lukaku won it with just 12 minutes remaining.

"It was difficult in terms of the circumstances, a huge difference, you come from Wembley, the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, and then we gave the players a well-deserved day off," said Tuchel.
"Then you have one day to turn around your mind in a new challenge.
"We also had a lot of players out so more or less no more defensive players, and a completely new set-up and competition.
"There was some noise today around the club of course, so it was not so easy to focus but we did very well I think.
"We conceded straight away but we had big chances to equalise, then go ahead.
"Then we conceded another one, the second half we stepped up and we pushed and were relentless but never impatient and we deserved to win.
"So full credit, we did not over-expect from us, and we played a very humble match, very seriously."

Liverpool were taken to extra time and penalties before winning the Carabao Cup Final on Sunday, and Jurgen Klopp decided to feshen up his line-up for the visit of Norwich.

They looked to be cruising thanks to two goals from Takumi Minamino, but they finished the game poorly before sneaking through 2-1 at Anfield.
"We had to make 10 changes, it was an exhausting night on Sunday mentally and physically," Jurgen Klopp explained.
"From a specific moment on we controlled the game tonight and played like we had to.
"Simple passes to find the gaps and from there we caused problems."

Elsewhere, Southampton came out on top against West Ham at St Mary's, eventually winning 3-1 after an absorbing contest.

Romain Perraud opened the scoring for the Saints before Michail Antonio levelled things up on the hour.

However, a penalty from James Ward-Prowse and an injury time strike from Armando Broja earned Southampton a spot in the last eight.
For Hammers boss David Moyes it was a frustrating one to take, with him blaming a lack of cutting edge for the defeat.
"I thought we had opportunities long before they scored the goal to be in front but we lacked quality in the final third," he said.
"I thought our build-up play and our play in the main was OK.
"We had chances to be in front and then went behind to a worldie of a goal. I did not see that coming and it put us on the back foot a little bit.
"At one each, it looked like there was only going to be one team winning it. But we made a terrible mistake defensively which gave them a chance to get back in front.
"Our finishing and final pass was so poor, so poor."
