Following the death of his newborn son last week, Liverpool fans staged a minute of applause for the Manchester United forward.
The Anfield crowd paid their respect to Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday evening, staging a minute of applause for the Manchester United forward following the passing of his son.
Ronaldo announced on social media on Monday that his newborn baby had passed away, and it was subsequently revealed that the Portuguese legend was understandably not featuring in Manchester United's squad to face Liverpool.
Liverpool took an early lead and shortly after in the seventh minute - Ronaldo's iconic number - Anfield rose to it's feet and applauded.
Chants of 'You'll never walk alone' followed, and Ronaldo has now responded to Liverpool fans on Instagram.
"Me and my family will never forget this moment of respect and compassion."
"One world… One sport… One global family… Thanks, Anfield."
The 37-year-old has since been back in training at United's training complex, and is expected to rejoin the squad for the weekend clash against Arsenal.
